A mechanics-first approach to skating
Reverse-engineered, not invented
Every standard in the library was taken off film of players who already move the way we are trying to teach. Nothing here is a theory about how skating ought to work.
One system, not a pile of drills
Each course assumes the one before it. A drill is only in the library if it is a step towards a mechanic that shows up in a game.
Downhill skating versus power skating
Two systems built on opposite physics. Most coaches teach the first. The players you are trying to catch use the second.
Force source
Power skating: a leg push, concentric and expensive. Downhill: a whole-body spring that returns energy you already put in.
The core
Power skating holds it still and stable. Downhill lets it counter-rotate, which is where the arm swing stops being decoration.
Blade pressure
Power skating puts you on your toes. Downhill starts at the heel and rolls through the rocker.
Changing direction
Power skating plants, pushes and redirects — which is a brake. Downhill twists and tilts the hips and never stops moving.
Energy cost
One burns ATP through contraction. The other recovers most of it elastically, which is why it can be repeated for a whole shift.
Brain demand
A pattern you have to think about is a pattern that disappears under pressure. Automation is the point, not a bonus.
