How to enter the offensive zone against a defender who is ready

The single most common entry mistake is declaring early. A player picks their route at the red line, the defender reads it, and the entry is decided before anybody reaches the blue line.

Good entries stay ambiguous. Two viable options are kept alive until the last possible moment, which forces the defender to hold a gap against both and beats them with whichever one they abandon first.

Speed differential does the rest. You do not need to be fast; you need to be changing speed at a moment the defender is not.
